Introduction

The electric vehicle industry has been abuzz with anticipation, and Tesla, the frontrunner in the EV market, has yet again delivered a game-changer. The Tesla Model 3, often touted as the "affordable" Tesla, has officially broken cover, and it's causing quite a stir. In this blog, we will delve into the unveiling of the Tesla Model 3 and explore what's new and noteworthy about this highly anticipated electric car.

Overview of the Tesla Model 3

The refreshed Model 3, internally known as Project Highland, features a sharper design with redesigned front and rear elements, and an updated interior. Tesla, in its Italian press release, mentioned that it boasts enhanced aerodynamics to increase range and decrease both drag and wind noise. Currently, these updates are available exclusively for the rear-wheel-drive and long-range variants.

Although from the outside, the most noticeable change is the new front end, which draws inspiration from the Tesla Roadster, Tesla says they've improved over 50% of the Model 3's parts based on what customers have said, all to make it more refined and comfortable.

Sleeker Design

The updated Model 3 showcases a more dynamic front end, marked by cleaner lines, a redesigned headlamp enclosure, and fresh LED daytime running lights. The hood's edge now features a sharper crease that extends to the fenders, a departure from its previous design.

The side profile remains unchanged, but the rear end boasts striking C-shaped taillights that wrap around, featuring the word 'Tesla' between them instead of the logo. The wheels have a new multi-spoke design, and Tesla introduces two new colors: Ultra Red and Stealth Gray.

In terms of dimensions, the Model 3 retains its overall size, but it gains an inch in length, now measuring 185.8 inches (4,720 millimeters), while its height shrinks slightly by one-tenth of an inch to 56.7 inches (1,441 mm). Ground clearance sees a negligible reduction from 5.5 inches (140 mm) to 5.4 inches (138 mm), according to the specifications.

Longer Range

The updated RWD(Rear-wheel drive) Model 3, equipped with 18-inch wheels, boasts an estimated WLTP range of 344 miles (554 kilometers), whereas the LR (Long Range) variant offers an impressive 421 miles (678 km). This represents approximately an 11 to 12 percent increase compared to the current models' WLTP ranges of 305 and 374 miles, respectively. It's important to note that EPA ratings for the US version of the electric sedan may differ significantly.

If you opt for the 19-inch "Nova" wheels, the RWD Model 3 achieves a WLTP range of 319 miles (513 km), while the LR version offers 391 miles (629 km) on a single charge. Performance figures remain consistent, with the RWD model reaching 0-62 miles per hour in 6.1 seconds and the LR all-wheel-drive variant doing it in 4.4 seconds.

Regarding energy consumption, the new RWD version (with 19-inch rims) uses 13.2 kilowatt-hours per 62 miles (100 km) on the European test cycle, while the LR variant consumes 14.0 kWh for the same distance.

Additional Features

The Model 3's interior has been transformed into a cozier lounge-like space. It showcases a wraparound layout characterized by an 'enveloping architecture' that combines aluminum and fabric materials. The entire cabin is bathed in new ambient lighting. Tesla asserts that the cabin is now quieter, attributing this improvement to the use of acoustic glass and enhanced soundproofing materials.

Inside, there's an expanded digital interface. The central 15.4-inch screen maintains its size but now flaunts slimmer bezels, offering a more generous screen area. Additionally, a new 8.0-inch rear display has been introduced, seamlessly integrating climate control, ventilation, and infotainment functions. Tesla has replaced the column-mounted levers with steering-mounted controls, aligning with the setup seen in the Model S and Model X.

For LR(Long Range) model customers, there's an enhanced audio experience with 17 speakers, which is an increase of three compared to the previous setup. This includes two subwoofers and two amplifiers. Meanwhile, the RWD(Rear-wheel drive) version gets nine speakers, along with one subwoofer and one amplifier. Tesla also touts an upgraded microphone for improved call quality.

Furthermore, the Model 3 now boasts a revised front suspension geometry to enhance both driving dynamics and comfort, along with a reinforced side impact structure.
